Dan D’Eramo
Executive Director, Co-Founder
Dan has been an animal lover from day one and always knew he was destined for an animal-related career. He attended the Pennsylvania State University where he used his degree in Agriculture and Animal Sciences to pursue a somewhat less traditional calling – animal protection. Upon graduation in 2007, he began his career advocating for animals and their people as the Chief Rescue and Investigations Officer for Farm Sanctuary, a farm animal rescue organization based in upstate New York. He continued investigative work as a Humane Law Enforcement Officer for eight years at the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, DC and became the Director of Field Services for HRA in 2018 overseeing animal control, animal bite investigations, dispatch, and humane law enforcement for the District.
Dan enjoys the unique challenges that come with field work as well as the opportunities it provides to partner with like-minded people from all over to help animals and people when it’s needed most. He has been deployed numerous times through different organizations to aid in disaster response and large-scale animal cruelty investigations. After moving to Western Colorado and having the opportunity to volunteer at field clinics on the Navajo Nation, Dan fell in love with the mission and turned his career trajectory to providing access to veterinary care for rural populations.
When not at a field clinic, you can find Dan enjoying anything that puts him outdoors in the mountains (or desert) with his partner and dogs (rez dog Rosey pictured).
